Ductless mini-splits shouldn’t leak water. If yours is leaking, it’s time to call a professional service technician to fix it. Keep reading to learn about some of the reasons your ductless HVAC system can leak water onto the floor of your home in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Dirt in the Air Filter

A severely clogged air filter can restrict the airflow so much that the pressure will drop inside your ductless mini-split. When this happens, ice can form, which will eventually melt and become water on the floor. Changing your filter on a regular basis will usually keep this from happening.

Condensate Line Blockage

Moisture in the air contains dust and other particles. When such moisture evaporates, it leaves the suspended particles behind. These particles can collect inside the condensate line, and a clogged line can cause the water to back up and spill onto the floor.

Drain Pan Cracks

Condensation that doesn’t evaporate usually flows down to the drain pain, which has an opening to a hose or pipe that leads outside to deposit the water there. If the pan has a crack in it, the water will leak out onto the floor before draining outside. Most of the time, a professional service technician can easily replace the drain pan.

Refrigerant Leak

Leaking refrigerant is cold enough that it can cause nearby moisture to freeze onto the components of your ductless HVAC system. When your system eventually shuts off, the ice will melt and leave water on the floor.
